Free-running threads
Manufactured from precision wound and helical coiled austenitic stainless steel profile, V-Coil thread inserts have the appearance of a spring.
When inserted using a tool chosen from a selection of hand or power tools, they are permanent internal threads that are resistant to heat and corrosion. When seated, their position is maintained by the action of radial pressure between the coils and the flanks of the threaded hole.
This pressure is given by their free diameter which is larger, by a calculated measure, than the installed diameter.
Self-locking threads - “screw locking”
Self-locking (or prevailing torque) threads are particularly recommended in applications subject to cyclic vibrations or impacts. In addition to the advantages guaranteed by free-running threads, V-Coil self-locking threads offer the safety of prevailing braking torque.
This is thanks to the action of one or more polygonal gripping coils placed along the length of the threads which exert radial pressure on the male thread.
Each gripper coil consists of a number of locking filaments that protrude within the smaller diameter of ordinary free-running coils.
As the male thread passes through these locking coils, the locking flats move, exerting a prevailing radial pressure or torque on the male thread.
By removing the male thread, the grip coils return to their original shape allowing for repeated assembly while maintaining a measurable level of prevailing torque.
Notch Threads - THREADING INSERTS type "SN" without shank
The tangless V-COIL notch threaded inserts, like the well-known V-COIL inserts, are designed for reliable thread reinforcement and thread repair. However, the risk of losing the tang when it breaks is eliminated. The regular threaded inserts of type "S" and "SL" have a small tang at their lower end used for installation by means of the insertion tool.
The shank is broken off and removed after installation. V-COIL notch inserts, on the other hand, can be installed without the use of a V-COIL notch installation tool, as they have an installation notch (“notch”) at each end of the insert. This eliminates the risk of the metal shank falling out in a safety-critical application, such as motors or electronic equipment.
V-COIL notch inserts are manufactured from high quality chromium nickel stainless steel, providing a strong internal thread that resists the effects of temperature and corrosion. The unique design ensures superior threads whose overall performance characteristics cannot be replicated by any other fastening method.
Wire inserts are significantly lighter and less expensive than any other form of comparable wire insert. Due to their compact design, they can usually be installed in existing structures, even if no other preparations have been made for them.
Free-sliding inserts - type "SN"
Manufactured from precision austenitic stainless steel wire, V-COIL notch threaded inserts are spring-loaded. When installed by hand or machine using the new V-COIL notch installation tool, they provide strong, durable internal threads that resist temperature and the effects of corrosion. Once installed, the position is held by the radial pressure effect between the threads and the flanks of the threaded hole. This pressure occurs because the free diameter is larger than the installed diameter by a pre-calculated amount.
